Quaresma- Inter to Chelsea

Chelsea

The Blue’s new winger has had, what critics such as myself might say, a disaster spell at Inter Milan. The Portuguese was all but influential during his spell in Milan, having only 12 starts with the First Team.

The highly-rated winger joined the Blues squad in Chelsea Manager Scolari’s hopes to regain some silverware. Can the winger do it? Maybe…

Quaresma is a player much like Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United star and World Player of the Year. Like Ronaldo, Quaresma has shown off his abilities for his National Team. Using his extreme pace and ball handling abilities, he has proven his worth on either side of the pitch. The Italian game is much slower than the English, and Quaresma’s pace should have been a real asset to the Inter Milan team, but is this what Chelsea needs?

Chelsea’s style of play incorporates defensive tactics with quick breaks and a huge emphasis on the centre midfield. Unless Scolari plans to change it up a little bit, I’m afraid that Mr. Quaresma could find himself sitting on the bench yet again. Amongst the likes of Deco, Ballack, and Malouda, Quaresma’s talents may not be as appreciated as supporters may think.

Great signing? Perhaps…

Chelsea's current emphasis on their central midfielders is what has put them in their current predicament. The lack of an out-and-out winger has made them too reliant on central midfield, which in turn makes it easier for opposing teams to suffocate them. The fact that Scolari has been playing only one striker is evidence of this; he's loading up the midfield with as many playmakers as he can, hoping to get the ball out in front. I think Quaresma will enable them to open up midfield a little bit more, which means opposing teams will have more ground to track. I think if Scolari can keep morale high, we'll see some wins from them soon...
